The Right Side of History
The Right Side of History: How Reason and Moral Purpose Made the West Great is a 2019 nonfiction book by American conservative commentator Ben Shapiro. It was published by Broadside Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, with an on-sale date of March 19, 2019.[1]
The book presents Shapiro's argument that Western political and cultural institutions depend on a combination of biblical moral claims and Greek reason. HarperCollins describes the book as a survey of more than 3,500 years of intellectual history and as a response to what Shapiro sees as a crisis of purpose in Western society.[2]
The book's reception included both conservative interest in its defense of faith-and-reason arguments and criticism of its historical framing. In The Washington Post, Alice Lloyd reviewed it as a conservative prescription for social and political malaise.[3] Vox published a debate-style interview in which Sean Illing pressed Shapiro on whether American history complicated the book's account of Judeo-Christian principles and Western civilization.[4]
